Educational opportunities
Scouting provides almost endless opportunities to learn new skills, meet people with different backgrounds and experiences, and travel to new places for adventure and education.
Outdoor skills
Scouting wouldn't be Scouting without the "outings." Every rank in Scouting, and many merit badges, include opportunities to learn skills related to navigation, camping, outdoor cooking, hiking, and more.

Troop meetings and merit badges
Troop meetings are organized around a monthly theme, such as automotive maintenance, games, pioneering, or disabilities awareness. Both monthly themes and merit badge work allow Scouts to explore topics they may not encounter at home or at school; most of these topics, however, will help the youth learn skills they can carry with them throughout life.
Scouts may choose to begin working on a merit badge at any time and proceed at their own pace with the guidance of a merit badge counselor.

Personal leadership development
Scouting founder Lord Baden-Powell referred to Scouts as "a game with a purpose." More than anything, Scouting's purpose is to grow the next generation of leaders. Individual Scouts learn leadership through various leadership positions in their patrols and in the troop. They also work to develop self-management as they progress through the seven ranks, culminating with Eagle and the Eagle project.

Beyond the troop
Apart from the educational opportunities offered within the troop experience, Scouting has national high adventure bases and leadership training where Scouts can expand their horizons.
