How to get involved with Troop 823
Join a meeting
Whether you heard about us online or through a friend (or through a friend online), you won't know if Troop 823 is for you until you visit. Come to a weekly troop meeting to learn about our program and activities.
Questions? Visit our contact page to get in touch with one of our adult leaders.
Get a uniform and handbook
Once you decide to join Scouting, you'll need to purchase a uniform with our Piedmont Council patch and our troop number. You will also need the Handbook for Boys or Handbook for Girls, which is your "instruction manual" for Scouting. It's also where you'll keep track of your requirements for rank advancement and track camping, hiking, and service hours.
Visit our council shop and ask a staff member to help you with everything you need.*

*Our troop maintains a collection of gently-used uniforms and camping gear for Scouts who cannot afford new items. Please talk to one of our leaders for more information.

Join a patrol
Once you join the troop, you'll also join a patrol, which is a smaller unit of the troop. Most of your activities will happen within the patrol. You'll plan camping activities together, hold short meetings during the troop meeting time, and support each other as you learn the skills of Scouting.

Challenge yourself
Ultimately, you are responsible for your Scouting journey. How far and fast you want to advance from Scout rank to Eagle is up to you. Some Scouts earn all 130+ merit badges, and others are content to enjoy the learning, leadership, friendship and adventure of Scouting without stressing over requirements.
Part of learning leadership (and of growing into adulthood) is managing your own path. We encourage you to seek out opportunities to expand your skills, to dig into your Scout handbook, to gear up for camping and other outdoor adventures, and to make the most of your Scouting experience.
Welcome to Troop 823!
